Rites Held For Victim Of Accident Funeral services for Vernon Raymond Phillips, 37, of Morton, were held on Friday afternoon, October 18th at 3:00 from the East Morton Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Measells and Rev. L. H. McCullough officiating. Interment followed in the Cooperville Cemetery in Scott County with Ott & Lee Funeral Home in charge. Mr. Phillips, who was employed with an oil company, was killed while at work near Morgan City, La., on Wednesday. He was a native of Smith County but had made his home in Morton for the past ten years. He was a member of the East Morton Baptist Church, a U. S. Navy veteran of the Korean conflict, and a member of the Masons. The survivors are his wife, Mrs. Frances Beatty Phillips; two sons, Rick and Glenn Phillips of Morton; two daughters, Vicky and Bonita Phillips, both of Morton; his father, Wiley Phillips of Polkville; two sisters, Mrs. Viola Pigg of Lena and Mrs. J. W. Ashmore of Meridian; and three brothers, Thomas Phillips of Polkville, Wayne Phillips of Citronell, Ala., and Ralph Phillips of Carthage. The pallbearers were Jerry Phillips, Maurice Phillips, Morris Phillips, Harold Pigg, Earl Pigg and Cleophas Pigg. o
