L. E. Reid of Canton and Tommie Quinn Boyles, son of Mr. and Mrs. Troy Boyles of Burns, were united in marriage on Sunday, March 12 at the First Baptist Church, Canton.

The Rev. David Cranford, pastor, officated at the double ring ceremony. The sanctuary and altar were attractively decorated with a basket of white gladioli and stock flanked by emerald palm foliage and cathedral candelabra with white tapers. Music was presented by Mrs. Herman Dean, organist, and Mr.

Herbert Batson, soloist. Miss Velma Lee Reid, sister of the bride, served as matron of honor, and was the bride's only attendant. The bride was given in marriage by her father. She wore a short sheath dress of soft white cotton lace with threequarter length sleeves, scooped neckline, and girdled by a white satin cummerbund. Her only jewelry was a single pearl on a silver chain.

Her shoulder length veil fell from a tiara of pearls and rhinestones. She carried a yellow-throated white orchid, enthroned on a white Bible as the bride's bouquet. The bridegroom was attended by Larry Johnson of Shaw as best man. Milton Reid, brother of the bride and Charles Boyles of Burns brother of the groom, served as groomsmen. Visitors in the Roy Hughes home during the week end were Mr.

and Mrs. Bob Rester and sons, Rusty and Dennis, of Jackson; Mr. and Mrs. James Roberts and Bill of Pineville, and Mr. and Mrs.

Haskell Madden of Walnut Grove. The family celebrated Mr. Hughes' birthday and Mr. and Mrs. Hughes' anniversary on Sunday.

Mrs. Thelma Rogers visited Mr. and Mrs. Gatha Sullivan and Miss Geneva Rogers at Soso Sunday. Mrs.

and Mrs. Shields are former residents of Forest. FORTNIGHTLY CLUB The Fortnightly Club met in the home of Mrs. T. G.

McCormick on March 30 with Mrs. Sara C. Lee as co-hostess. The president, Mrs. G.

B. Beard, presided over the business session. Mrs. S. A.

Grafton read the club collect as the meditation. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. Mrs. Beard thanked those who helped decorate the livestock shew float and the stage for the queen's contest. Awards from the 5th district convention were announced and presented to the different chairmen.

Mrs. Ott acknowledged the lovely floral arrangements and thanked those who made them for the club meeting. Mrs. L. W.

Willey, chairman of national defense division, presented Mr. A. A. Mills, chairman of the Forest National defense, Mrs. S.

A. Grafton, Scott county chairman and Mr. Grafton, in turn, presented Mr. Lawrence Feduccia of Cleveland, who is deputy state civil defense director. Mr.

Feduccia showed a film on national defense and, made a very interesting talk stressing preparedness for national defense. An invitation was read by the president inviting members of the club to a most important meeting on water pollution to be held at the Heidelberg Hotel April 24. Mississippi is the first state to take steps along this line. The meeting was then turned over to the hostesses, who served a dessert plate to the members and several invited guests. MRS.

FIKES ELECTED TO HEAD The Forest Business and Professional Women's Club met on Tuesday, March 28, at 6:30 p. in the Rose Room of Old South Cafe for its regular program meeting. President Arlee Hunter presided. Etoile Hopkins gave the invocation. Nannie Mae Fountain, as the chairman of the Nominating Committee, presented the following names as officers for the year 1961-62 and they were unanimously elected: Mary Fikes, president; Nell Rester, first vice-president; E- toile Hopkins, second vice president; Jewel Smith, third vicepresident; Myrtle Morris, treasurer; Abbie Jewel Williamson, corresponding secretary; Eleanor Dillard, recording secretary.

Following the election of officers, the president presented the public relations chairman, Katherine Robertson, who outlined the functions of the Public Relations Committee in the building and maintaining good will for the club and its program, stressing the more people the members tell about B. P. W. the wider our scope of influence. Nannie Mae Fountain gave the meaning of the Emblem.

The following committee chairmen gave a few pointers on their respective committees: Myrtle Morris, finance chairman; Emma Pearl Yonce, membership chairman; Irene Guyse, legislation chairman; Eva Freeman, health and safety. At the conclusion of the program, the chairman presented the numbers of her committee and also hostesses for the evening as typical business women of any town, namely: Mabel Hopper, as a retired business woman; Gladys Shelton, as a professional woman; and Verna Mitchell as a young business woman and also a homemaker. Salutes were given to all three, who are active members of Forest B. P. W.
