PIU'DEN 12 tsp. baking soda Orange Buttermilk Salad 1 (20 oz.) crushed pineapple (undrain-ed) 2 sugar combine bring to boil-stirring-remove from heat. Add 1 (6 oz.) orange jello, dissolve and cool. Add 2 buttermilk.

Fold in 1 (8 oz.) coolwhip and add 1 c. pecans. Peach Ice Cream 4 eggs 2 12 c. sugar 3 cans evap. milk 2 tsp vanilla 6 peaches Place in blender, eggs and sugar.

Add evap. milk and vanilla. Stir in peaches. Add milk to fill freezer. Makes one gallon.

14 tsp. salt 1 c. whipped margarine 1 tsp. vanilla 1 c. sugar legg Form into balls, press flat with glass.

Bake 10 minutes in 350 degree oven. Buttermilk Candy 2 c. sugar 1 c. buttermilk 12 soda 2 butter 1 cup chopped pecans Dissolve ingredients five minutes. Mix and cook to soft ball stage.

I believe of all of my hobbies, I enjoy sewing the most." Jo also enjoys going to flea markets." I love to go to the flea market and just browse," she said, "but I like it even better when I have some money to spend and can go a little crazy, years." Jo does all of the indoor cooking and James Archie takes care of the outdoor. "J.A.

loves to fix steaks and homemade ice cream," she said. "My favorite food is dessert-any kind of pie or cake." "The most important thing in my life to me is my family," she said. "I look forward to the holidays so that we dorm.4James Archie was playing football at State at the time, and had broken his leg. Well, on that night we had walked into town to go to the movies. I started running back to campus and left James Archie 'hobbling' along. He's never let me forget the night I ran off and left him to get home as best he could." Jo and James Archie have three children and four grandchildren. Their daughter, Brenda lives in Jackson, Martha lives in Forest, and Dave lives in Hamilton, Canada. Jo first learned to cook from her mother and aunts. "With five children in the family we had to divide the chores," she said.

"I always wanted to do the kitchen work instead of dusting or working in the yard." In addition to working and rearing her family, Jo has several hobbies that she has enjoyed over the years. "I started a thimble collection several years ago," she said. "Whenever someone in the family goes on a trip, they bring me a thimble. Each one is unique and has a Tlmrt Staff Writer "One of the joys of my life is cooking with my grandchildren," said Jo Marler of Forest." Since they've been old enough to sit on a stool and stir they have helped me in the kitchen." Jo Marler is no stranger to a kitchen. She has taught home ec at Forest High School for 25 years.

Jo is the middle of five children born to T.G. and Ruth Hubbard in Kossouth, MS. She graduated from Forest High School in 1945 and entered Mississippi University for Women. She graduated from M.U.W. in 1949 with a B.S.

in Home Ec. After rearing a family, she attended Mississippi State University, where she earned an M.A. in Home Ec in 1975. "I met James Archie while I was at M.U.W. and he was going to M.S.U.," said Jo.

"We dated for three years and were married on December 18, 1949. "I'll always remember one date in particular that James Archie and I had," she said. "Every night at 10 p.m. at MUW a bell would sound to let you know it was time to be in the can all get together. Since everyone is scattered across the country it makes it hard to get together.

But because of that the times we do have are very special and filled with love." Barbecued Roast 5 lb. roast 1 large onion (chopped) 2 cloves garlic 1 bottle catsup (1 12 1 2 c. water 1 4 c. worcheshire sauce 14 c. vinegar 2 tsp.

(each) salt; chili powder; brown sugar, and dry mustard 12 tsp. liquid smoke Combine all ingredients in a heavy saucepan. Bring to a boil. Add roast (cut into large chunks) cook slowly (3 to 3 12 hours) over low heat. Serve on hot buns.

Serves 15-20. Squash Casserole 3 c. cooked and drained yellow squash 1 onion (chopped) 1 egg 1 can cream of chicken soup 1 (8 oz.) carton sour cream Combine above ingredients. Salt and pepper to desired taste. Make stove top dressing (cornbread) according to package instructions.

Grease 3 qt. casserole dish. Place squash mixture and dressing mixture in alternate layers ending with dressing on top. Bake in 350 degree oven for 40-45 minutes or until lightly brown. Tea Cakes 2 12 c.
