The Bearkittens defeated the Lake girls by a close score of 41 to 37. The Bearcats were beaten by a strong team from Lake, the score was 80 to 73.

The Kittens won the game but not before the Lake girls made it close. The first quarter looked as if the Kittens would walk away with the game. The score was 13 to 5 with Rowana Pope scoring six points. But in the second quarter Lake outscored Forest 12 to 9 as Lake closed to within 5 points FOREST GIRL PLACES MISS BELHAVEN COLLEGE PAGEANT Sue Low fry of Forest was selected fourth runner-up in Belhaven College's official preliminary to the Miss America Scholarship Pageant. The Kittens defeated a fine girls team from Bay Springs, Thursday. The Tigerettes stayed close in the first two quarters but started to fall behind in the third quarter.

With the Bearkittens ahead by 9 in the fourth quarter, Coach Haywood Reeves substituted many players. The final score was Forest 38, Bay Springs 29. Scoring for Forest are as follows: Shelia Sanders with 12; Charlene Jones with 8, Rowana Pope with Carol Palmer and Betsy Walsh each had Kristy Walsh and Linda Smith each with 2. Scoring for Bay Springs are as follows: Joyce Campbell with Kathryn Quince with Annette Payton with Alice McGlaston and Patricia Hosey each with 4. The Bearcats won, but it was not as easy as many people thought it would be.

The score was 65 to 61 in favor of Forest. Forest led after the first quarter by one point, 13 to 12. But the Tigers put on a great scoring burst in the second quarter and took the lead 29 to 27. The score in the first quarter was Lake 20, Forest 15. But the Cats never gave up and came back in the second quarter to get within 2 points. Lake widened the lead to 13. The tournament will be held at Sylva-Bay Academy at Bay Springs. Scott's girls, which were seeded 5th in the ten-team tournament, will meet Heidelberg girls at 7:00 Tuesday. The boys, seeded 6th, will meet Whynot Academy at 8:15 Tuesday.

DeDuties Clyde Lindsey and Oliver McCrory, McGriff was driving a log truck on old Highway 80 west of Morton with his wife, and mother-in-law, Mrs. Melba Cumberland, wife of the suspect They said Cumberland flashed a 12 guage shotgun and stopped the truck.
